What changed

Statement A, made shortly after the Syrian regime change in December 2024, urges caution and restraint toward the new Syrian leadership, explicitly warning against unnecessary declarations that could push the new Syrian government into an adversarial posture. Statement B, made roughly five months later in May 2025, directly addresses the new Syrian regime with a firm warning — that Israel will not stand aside if Druze are attacked — which is precisely the kind of assertive declaration toward Syrian leadership that Statement A cautioned against. The two statements reflect genuinely incompatible postures: one counsels diplomatic restraint to avoid antagonizing Syria's new rulers, while the other demands those same rulers understand Israel's readiness to intervene militarily on behalf of the Druze.
